Kannada Actor Ranya Rao Arrested for Alleged Gold Smuggling; BJP MLA Calls for Stern Action

Date:

Kannada film actress Ranya Rao has been arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for allegedly smuggling gold from Dubai. The arrest has sent shockwaves through the Kannada film industry and raised concerns about the involvement of influential figures in illegal activities.

According to officials, Rao was allegedly caught carrying undeclared gold while returning from Dubai. Authorities are investigating whether this was an isolated incident or part of a larger smuggling network.

Reacting to the development, BJP MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty Y demanded strict action if any wrongdoing is proven, particularly if law enforcement officials were involved.

“If this is true and if the police were involved, then it is a complete misuse of power. The government should take stern action on this,” he stated.

The case has sparked discussions on the growing instances of gold smuggling in India, with many calling for stronger monitoring at airports and stricter enforcement of customs laws. The government is expected to provide further details as the investigation progresses.

Meanwhile, the film fraternity has remained largely silent on the issue, awaiting more clarity on the case. Ranya Rao, known for her roles in Kannada cinema, has not yet made any public statement regarding the allegations.

As the case unfolds, authorities are likely to intensify their probe into any potential connections Rao may have had with smuggling networks. The arrest has once again highlighted the need for vigilance against illegal activities at international borders.
