Indian government has started their official election campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the year 2028-29.
India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar unfolded the ‘Peace’ vision while presenting India’s nomination at the United Nations headquarters in New York. He stated that the role of the United Nations has become more critical than ever in the current global landscape.
Dr. Jaishakar stated that to date, India has sent around three lakh peace soldiers in the fifty peacekeeping missions of the United Nations. He also mentioned that at present more than four thousand and three hundred Indian soldiers are deployed across ten missions. He stated that India had always given importance to talks, diplomacy, and the interests of the Global South.
Dr Jaishankar appealed to the member nations to support the candidature of India. If elected, India will be a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for two years starting from the year 2028. India has held this post eight times previously.
