Total direct tax collection (before refunds) recorded an increase of ₹1.57 lakh crore up to August 10. In the same period last year, it was ₹7.97 lakh crore.

According to the data, net corporate tax collection rose to ₹2.70 lakh crore, up from ₹2.26 lakh crore in the previous year. Meanwhile, net non-corporate tax collection increased from ₹4.11 lakh crore to ₹5.07 lakh crore.

For the 2026-27 fiscal year, the central government has projected a fiscal deficit of ₹16.96 lakh crore, which is 4.3 percent of the country’s GDP. This aligns with the targeted gradual reduction towards fiscal consolidation.

Net tax receipts rose from ₹5.4 lakh crore to ₹6.4 lakh crore during the April-June quarter. This reflects sustained strength in direct and indirect tax collections, despite global economic uncertainties.
