At the conclusion of the 2026 Asian Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended every member of the Indian contingent who represented the nation with determination, passion, and remarkable sportsmanship.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated all the medal winners on Sunday, noting that their magnificent performances have brought immense joy to the country. He expressed hope that these Games would inspire even greater achievements in the years to come and contribute to strengthening sports at the grassroots level.

In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “As the 2026 Asian Games conclude, I congratulate every member of the Indian contingent who represented our nation with determination, passion, and remarkable sportsmanship. Congratulations to all our medal winners, whose outstanding performances have brought immense joy to the country. I hope these Games inspire even greater achievements in the years ahead. They will also contribute to strengthening sports at the grassroots level.”

India secured the fourth position at the Aichi-Nagoya Games with a total of 85 medals—comprising 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze—marking the country’s second-highest medal haul in the history of the Asian Games.

India’s campaign in Japan was highlighted by several historic achievements and successful title defences across various sports. Both the men’s and women’s cricket teams retained their Asian Games titles, while both kabaddi teams also won gold medals. The men’s hockey team successfully defended its title with a 5-1 victory over Malaysia, whereas the women’s team defeated China 1-0 in the final, ending a 44-year wait for an Asian Games gold medal.

India also delivered several historic individual performances. Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in golf at the Asian Games, while 17-year-old Kumkum Mohad made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve gold medal at the continental event.

Meanwhile, Lovlina Borgohain also etched her name in an elite list, becoming the second Indian woman—after Mary Kom—to win a boxing gold medal at the Asian Games. In athletics, India secured the highest tally with 24 medals, while shooting accounted for 15 medals. Archery proved to be the most successful sport in terms of gold medals, yielding five golds.
