The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat, will organize the BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Sports Demonstration Games 2026 at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad on October 12. Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya will inaugurate this event.
The event, held under India’s BRICS Chairship, will bring together delegations from member and partner countries to showcase traditional sports and promote cultural exchange. Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse, and Gujarat’s Minister of State for Sports Jayram Gamit will also participate.
This non-competitive event will provide a platform for countries to showcase their traditional sports practices, exchange knowledge, and preserve cultural heritage. India will demonstrate Mallakhamb, Yogasana, and Kalaripayattu, while China will present Wushu, Lion Dance, and Health Qigong. Russia will showcase Sambo and Gorodki, and Brazil will demonstrate the Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira, alongside other traditional activities.
Participating nations—including Belarus, Bolivia, Ethiopia, Iran, Kazakhstan, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates, will showcase their traditional sports and cultural practices. Bilateral meetings will also be held with the visiting delegations to explore opportunities for enhanced sports cooperation within the BRICS framework and to promote local sports.
The aim of this initiative is to strengthen interpersonal ties and foster mutual understanding by bringing the diverse sporting traditions of the participating countries onto a shared platform.
